By now, most people know that the father of our country did not, in fact, level a cherry tree and gain brownie points from his dad for honesty. But for most folk, the life of George Washington is still probably pretty hazy. This fine production is hosted by Senator Bill Bradley, and features numerous original historical prints from the Willard-Budd Collection of Washington memorabilia. Washington's early days as a surveyor and freemason are followed by his extensive military duty in first the French-American War and later the War of Independence. The filmmakers also devote considerable time to discussing Washington's landmark agricultural innovations on his Mount Vernon plantation, as well as his significant political contributions to the creation of the U.S. Constitution. A good program. Recommended. (Available from: Finley-Holiday Film Corporation, 12607 E. Philadelphia St., Whittier, CA 90601; 1-800-345-6707.)
