If you're reading this, it's likely that you're a mammal. Yes, we're part of the extremely varied group of vertebrates that are warm-blooded, give live birth, and have body hair of some sort. Sound basic? It is, and The Mammal Story isn't the most thrilling video ever, but it's a very solid, thorough introduction to animal classification. Students will not only learn distinguishing characteristics of mammals, but also their context within the animal kingdom, and important vocabulary words (like herbivore/carnivore). The accompanying curriculum includes Internet resources, and lots of handouts for students to do their own "field research" in their proverbial backyards. A good starter for life science units.
