While The Paris Concert for Amnesty International, held Dec. 10, 1998, won't please all of the people all of the time (my guess is that Radiohead fans and Shania Twain fans have only a sliver in common on a Venn diagram), the cause is notable, the musical line-up is impressive and the interspersed animated shorts underscoring the Amnesty International message offer visually interesting breaks between sets. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the concert also features Alanis Morissette, Tracy Chapman, Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, and (in my opinion, the show stealers) Peter Gabriel and Youssou N'Dour on funky and fun duet versions of "In Your Eyes" and "Shaking the Tree." In addition, the Dalai Lama offers a characteristically stirring and heartwarming address. Recommended, overall. Aud: C, P. (R. Pitman)
