Trivia question: Where did Buddy Holly get the title for "That'll Be the Day"? Answer: from The Duke; it's a line spoken by John Wayne's character in the 1956 film The Searchers. Paul McCartney, who hails from a different insect rock n' roll family, hosts this biographical account of Buddy Holly & The Crickets, from Holly's beginnings with interviewee Bob Montgomery as "Buddy and Bob" on the Texas rockabilly circuit circa 1954 to Buddy's untimely death at the age of 22 in a plane crash on Feb. 3, 1959 (the tragedy also took Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper). Featuring excellent footage of Buddy Holly & The Crickets in concert (a mild-mannered looking kind of guy, Holly could nevertheless get pretty funky during the bridge), in-depth interviews with surviving family members, former Crickets and early managers, The Real Buddy Holly Story is a solid entry in the rock 'n roll video biography hall of fame.
