An ambitious 6-hour BBC series, The Royal Opera House offers a somewhat unfocused behind the scenes look at this world famous London institution, which--if the episode I watched (Star Struck) is any indication--appears to be failing. Heads are rolling--not on stage, but in the staff, where Keith Cooper, marketing director of "The House," is attempting to rejuvenate the company by firing long time employees. Seemingly unrelated, we also follow the trials and tribulations of the opera Carmen when the main character falls ill and needs an understudy. Not much of a cohesive story, but interesting in snippets, this series is recommended for larger arts collections; optional elsewhere. Aud: C, P. (N. Plympton)
