The question posed by The Search for Heaven is whether science can prove the existence of Heaven and Hell, and--not surprisingly--this Christian documentary fails to provide definitive answers. What it does offer, however, are the compelling stories of several survivors of near-death experiences, people who strongly feel they were afforded a glimpse of the afterlife before being pulled back into this world. In addition, the film presents sketchy parallels between humanity's great religions, arguing that every faith has its own notion of Heaven, but far more interesting here are the New Testament anecdotes about the religious awakenings of key figures, such as Saint Stephen and Saint Paul. DVD extras include additional interviews with near-death survivors, a recommended reading list, and more. Sure to be a popular addition to general religion collections, this is recommended.
