What would you do if you found out that the man you married, the man you've had children with, had been unfaithful to you--with other men? Adultery can be a heartbreaking enough scenario even without the bisexual twists, but imagine the added complications when your husband has full-blown AIDS and you are now HIV-positive. Tasha Oldham's PBS P.O.V.-aired documentary The Smith Family is a very moving chronicle of a Salt Lake City couple--Kim and Steve Smith--who had, by their own admission, an idyllic life, with two sons and a strong standing in the Mormon Church, before things went terribly wrong. Facing a crisis that would tear most families apart, Kim decided to stand by her man (who was crushed by guilt and shame), despite criticism from family and friends--a courageous, inspiring, and extraordinary act for an innocent, wronged woman who might one day have to cope with the progression of her own illness. A remarkable testament to faith, forgiveness, and love, this is highly recommended. [Note: a 55-min. version is also available for $195.] Aud: C, P. (J. Asala)
