Another excellent volume in Questar Video's ongoing series of historical travel guides to the West, The Story of America's Canyon Country looks at the 130,000 square miles in Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico, that contains some of the finest natural wonders in America. Sights include the Grand Canyon, the Colorado River, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Monument Valley, Cedar Breaks, Canyonlands, Arches, Capitol Reef, and Lake Powell. For each of the places visited, the program offers historical background--including imaginatively superimposed archival stills--and excellent contemporary footage of the area. Some of the great stories included in the overall "story" of the canyon country are those of the Navajos who settled the land; Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid who hid there, the Mormon people who traveled there under the initial guidance of prophet Joseph Smith, and his successor, Brigham Young. A beautifully filmed and engaging documentary, The Story of America's Canyon Country is highly recommended. (Available from most distributors.)
