William Allen White, editor of the Emporia, Kansas Gazette from 1895 to 1943, gained nationwide attention for his staunch Republican editorials and his active role in shaping party platforms. In addition to winning two Pulitzer Prizes (one for journalism in 1923, and another for his posthumously published autobiography in 1946), White was an advisor to several Presidents, making him enduringly famous in Emporia and the rest of Kansas. Today, the state children's book award is named in his honor, along with an elementary school, public library, and the school of journalism at the University of Kansas. Naturally, you might wonder what this nicely done (if clichéd) video offers the rest of the nation? Not much, really, but if you're a Kansan, this tape is a must-buy. Aud: I, J, H, P. (R. Reagan)
