In this dutifully presented travel-tour of the cities, history, and natural sites of southwest England, viewers visit the regions of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Avon, Wilshire, and Dorset. Called a "land of contrasts and conflicts," this area of the United Kingdom really is steeped in historical interest, and the producers concentrate on some two dozen of the most popular attractions, including Plymouth, Wells Cathedral, St. Michael's Mount, Merry Maidens, Silbury Hill, and Stonehenge. While these last three sites reveal just how fascinated Ye Olde English People were with rock and earth formations, others illustrate their interest in architecture, exploration, and gardening. Supported by a nice score, well-crafted narration, and a decent price, this tape is a welcome off-the-beaten-major-city travel guide, and is recommended for historical travel collections. Aud: P. (K.
