Imagine this, in the 60 major battles fought during the Civil War, 55 were commanded on both sides by West Point graduates. In the remaining five battles, West Point grads were commanders on one of the sides. This fact constitutes either one of the greatest kudos ever received by a military institution or it's a reminder of one of the saddest wastes in American history (or both). Regardless, it's an impressive statistic. They say at the Academy: "The history we teach was made by those we taught", and this excellent documentary shares that rich history through interviews, archival footage and contemporary scenes of West Point. This comprehensive and nicely organized tribute to the ‘Long Gray Line' offers a comprehensive history of military tradition, loyalty, duty, and honor at an American institution. Highly recommended.
