A nice, rah-rah video that places Tiger Woods in the pantheon of sports greats such as Mickey Mantle, Michael Jordan and Jack Nicklaus--at least in the opening montage of stock footage--this unauthorized sports biography video would most likely appeal to a variety of sports fans. After all, Woods is not only the first black golf superstar, he's also the first young golf superstar in some time. Seemingly as affable and self-possessed as Jordan, the future looks golden for Woods, and you sure as heck won't hear any discouraging words in this lovefest. Instead, viewers will learn about the all-important constant flex in Woods' right knee, and that golf analyst Gary McCord's "groin would fly off" if he swung a golf club like Woods. Cautionary words, indeed, and just a sample of the wide-ranging, rather leaden analysis and appreciation served up here. Tiger Woods is one hell of a golfer, and, early in his career, he seems destined to redefine his sport as much as Jordan, Wayne Gretzky or Babe Ruth defined theirs. This slick, competent look at Woods, which includes interview snippets with family members, friends, coaches, commentators and colleagues, is entirely suitable for golf-intensive collections or collections just looking for another Tiger vid. A strong optional purchase. Aud: P. (M. Tribby)
