Not as lively as Touring America's Ghost Towns (reviewed in the May, 1992 issue), the latest entry from Questar Video is nevertheless a top-notch video on a pretty popular subject: bed and breakfast inns of historic note. 10 inns are profiled here, the oldest of which, the Robert Morris Inn in Oxford, MD, dates from 1710. It's original owner, Mr. Morris, had the unfortunate luck to die of a gunshot wound fired during a ceremony in his honor. His son, Robert Morris, Jr., was a major financier of the American Revolution. A popular retreat today, the inn was used by James Michener when he wrote his working notes for his novel Chesapeake. At the St. James Hotel in Cimarron, NM, visitors can spend the night in Room 14 (Jesse James' room); and the Wolf Creek Tavern in Wolf Creek, OR, offers visitors a taste of Hollywood. Other inns profiled include: St. Francis Inn (St. Augustine, FL), Beekman Arms (Rhinebeck, NY), Red Lion Inn (Stockbridge, MA), Stillman's Inn (Galena, IL), Monmouth Plantation (Natchez, MS), and the San Ysidro Ranch (Montecito, CA). Travel buffs are sure to enjoy this picturesque tour through history-rich sleepovers. Highly recommended. (Available from most distributors.)
