Treaty Rights and Tribal Sovereignty

Offering a good introduction to the basic concepts surrounding native peoples' ("Anishinabe") sovereignty, land cessions, land use, and access to ancestral lands, versus European and American efforts to take land, appropriate resources, and assimilate Indians into "white" ways, Treaty Rights and Tribal Sovereignty gets to the heart of the conflict between Native Americans and whites over treaties initially made in good faith. While the tape does provide a concise historical overview of these matters since the founding of the Republic, the focus is on Wisconsin-area tribes, which, unfortunately, limits a wider national audience, as many states have their own reservations and their own treaty histories (that are not discussed here). Consider this a required purchase in the Great Lakes area (Canadian audiences will likely be interested as well) and a moderately recommended one elsewhere.
