From one generation to the "Next," Star Trek inspires unprecedented devotion and loyalty in its legion of followers. "Trekkies" are the only fans listed by name in the Oxford Dictionary, and every weekend, it is said, there is a Star Trek convention or event somewhere in the world. This documentary boldly goes where no documentary has gone before: The Star Trek bathroom, the Klingon Language School and "Star Base Dental," an "enterprising" Orlando dentist's office that is bedecked top to bottom with Star Trek paraphernalia. Denise Crosby, who portrayed Natasha Yar on Star Trek: The Next Generation, is our guide through the Star Trek universe. We meet a galaxy of colorful characters, including Barbara Adams, a Whitewater juror who insisted on wearing her Starfleet uniform to the trial and insists on being called "Commander" at work. We also meet bemused and clearly moved Star Trek cast members who try to make sense of it all. Produced by Paramount, keeper of the franchise, the overall tone is one of affection, and director Roger Nygard does not take cheap shots or offer putdowns of these true believers. But how could he not include William Shatner's classic "Get a Life" sketch from Saturday Night Live? Not for Star Trek fans only, this is recommended. (K. Lee Benson)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
