While tapes on drums and guitar playing abound, there are not too many out for the trumpet. Clark Terry is the host and instructor for this informal beginning to trumpet playing. After a brief history and tour of the instrument and its accessories, Terry sits down with an easel and a pointer for a basic introduction to music theory. The values of notes and rests are followed by the chromatic scale and finally some basic jazz phrases. The tape concludes with a spirited rendition of Grofe's "On the Trail," accompanied by bass player Major Holly, which viewers are invited to join in on. A good program for those interested in taking up the trumpet. Recommended. (Available from most distributors.)
