With the success of Saving Private Ryan, distributors are snapping up and re-releasing any and all WWII-related materials available. This 1996 ABC News special gives a brief history of the pivotal Normandy invasion ("Operation Overlord"), providing solid information, interesting film footage and stills, clear maps and graphics, and especially good interviews with veterans of both sides. The only real flaw with the production is the decision to retain the graphics which originally bracketed each commercial break; these are shown repeatedly throughout the video, rather than being edited out to give the segments a seamless documentary effect. Still, the information is good and the tape does serve as a solid overview of a monumental event. Recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (R. Reagan)
