Don't be fooled by the title: UFOs and Aliens has less to do with the little green men sporting bulbous heads, then with an overview of the SETI program (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence), the science of extended space travel, and the ethical issues that could arise if we made contact with an alien culture. Narrated by Star Trek Voyager's Jeri Ryan, this three volume series, which originally aired on The Learning Channel, offers eye-popping visualizations and animation, interesting interviews with scientists from top research facilities around the country, a talk with Jill Tarter (the inspiration for Contact), and film clips from Close Encounters of the Third Kind and War of the Worlds. Along the way, the programs explore UFO sightings, abductions, and weird patterns in the cornfields, as well as the current state of "UFOlogy," but without the sensationalism often found in such overviews. A fascinating series that would make an excellent addition to either school or public library collections, this is highly recommended. Aud: J, H, C, P. (L. Stevens)
