Glitzier than most educational productions, this handsomely packaged opening episode in a projected series on "geography," offers a pair of young narrators giving students (or, for that matter, general viewers) a colorful introduction to the history, types, and use of maps and globes. Explaining the differences between maps and globes, the narrators illustrate six ways of projecting maps from the more accurate globes; explain the origins and meaning of "latitude," "longitude," and the various "time zones;" and point out the many different kinds of maps, including physical maps, topographic maps, road maps, thematic maps, etc. Excellent production values (including superb graphics) and a snappy script make this a good selection for both school and public libraries.
