The "Vocal Majority" rules! That's the name of the approximately 140-man chorus featured in this video, which follows the group as they practice to compete with other choruses in Pittsburgh for the International Gold Medal of S.P.E.B.Q.S.A. (the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America). In Voices!, viewers will see barbershop quartet singing in many lights: as a passion, a means for coping with grief, a ready-made support group, and as a democracy of talent--even if you don't have a stellar voice, there's a place for you in barbershop singing. Although it drags in spots, the film is worth watching for the Acoustix Quartet group alone; they could open the gates to heaven with their harmony. Warning to grumps and grouches: this video is relentlessly cheerful. Recommended. Aud: P. (S. Fisher)
