Produced and directed by Madeline Muir, West Coast Crones is a touching look at "nine old lesbians," who meet to share their friendship and talk about aging. Dottie, 63, says: "When I was a child, I thought old people were smelly and irritable. And now, here I am." It's the kind of remark that's indicative of the good humor that runs through the group. Seen as a group, and one by one, these interesting women share their thoughts about growing old: thoughts which range from the lighthearted to the fearful ("I don't know what it's going to be like to be incontinent."). Pat, 64, says: "I like being old," while Ruth, 61, admonishes the younger viewers to "be who you are sooner." In addition to the interviews, members of the group are seen performing a ritual for the winter solstice and on the stage with the Feminist Theater Collective. Inexpensive, cleverly titled, the West Coast Crones are a great bunch of ladies, and viewers will be delighted to spend this engaging half hour in their company. Highly recommended.
