Ostensibly a look at the outstanding Glee Club of the United States Military Academy at West Point, this film does more than merely spotlight this highly talented group. Against a background of such songs as "Battle Hymn of the Republic," "Nearer My God To Thee," "America, The Beautiful," and the West Point "Alma Mater," viewers are treated to a wide variety of images, interviews, and information. The historical background and importance of each song is explained, along with descriptions of how these songs came to play a special role in the life of the academy. Illustrious graduates ranging from Norman Schwarzkopf to astronaut Frank Borman offer their views of academy life and how the Glee Club helped them to realize the academy motto of "Duty, Honor, Country." The producers of this video have done an admirable job in bringing a highly patriotic subject to the screen without being overly sentimental or cloying. The result is a film that offers rousing songs, fascinating history, and a glimpse into the very soul of what makes West Point special. Enthusiastically recommended. Aud: H, P. (J. Carlson)
