Advertising itself provocatively as “a homoerotic evangelical exorcism film,” John C. Clark and Brie Williams's movie might be described more accurately as a modestly-budgeted psychological thriller with gay overtones. The focus is on a small fundamentalist group that has moved into a ramshackle house in a rundown urban neighborhood. While they are threatened by a group of local thugs, it is internal turmoil that proves far more devastating. When ultra-devoted Jordan (AJ Knight) is caught going well beyond impure thoughts concerning handsome pastor Eli (Gregory Shelby), the latter becomes convinced that his friend is possessed by a demon, and he attempts an exorcism. The ritual—which involves little more than tying Jordan up and shouting at him (or the spirit within him)—initially seems successful, but in the end the young man's desire proves too strong, and he winds up with a taste for blood as well as sexual gratification. The dialogue is uninspired, the production threadbare, and acting amateurish, so even if the premise piques viewer interest, the execution is likely to disappoint. Not recommended. (F. Swietek)
