A Modern Affair should have been a TV movie-of-the-week: free entertainment that goes well with folding socks and doing homework. Executive Grace (Lisa Eichorn) is a single woman in the ‘90s whose biological clock just went off. With the help of her overbearing friend Elaine (Caroline Aaron), Grace picks out a sperm donor (Stanley Tucci), gets pregnant, and then starts dating him, though he doesn't know she's a client. Eichorn and Aaron turn in borderline performances, while Tucci adds quiet dignity to his role. Director Vern Oakley has created a mediocre romantic comedy that doesn't delve under the surface, but manages to sustain itself on its premise. But don't pay for this affair. (L. Russo)
