Director Elliott Lester establishes this film's social hierarchy in a few quick brushstrokes: Culver City, CA, kid Jonah (John Patrick Amedori) is a shy and brainy outcast among his graduating private school classmates, which include promiscuous party girl Sara (Lizzy Caplan). But when Sara and her upper-class friends Erin (Jenny Wade) and Lucas (D.J. Cotrona) discover that Jonah works at a pharmacy, he's welcomed into the fold, with the hopes that he can steal drugs for them. Anxious for their approval, Jonah agrees, which seems reckless, since he needs the job and plans to enter UCLA in the fall, but he's also attracted to Sara, even though she's seeing Troy (Jonathon Trent). Jonah's mother Sandra (Daryl Hannah), on the other hand, isn't happy that he's spending so much time with these new pals. Things reach a crisis point when one of the group dies from an overdose and the others all become part of an unofficial investigation that could destroy their lives. Ultimately, Addicted to Her Love (which was titled Love Is the Drug during its theatrical release) plays like Gossip Girl meets Kids. A strong optional purchase. (K. Fennessy)
