Sing along: "Jaws, jaws, jaws of the jungle." At 40-feet, the Anaconda snake can handily digest human prey, but that is nothing compared to the scenery devoured by Jon Voight (in the Robert Shaw role) as a snake hunter who tags along with a documentary film crew cruising the Amazon in search of a lost tribe. He gets the film's best lines ("Don't make me out a monster. I didn't eat the captain"), but if you think his character is hard to swallow, you're right, as the Anaconda graphically demonstrates in this film's most awesome (and gross) scene. Eric Stoltz, Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube are game for this contemporary creature feature which should satisfy the appetite of horror buffs. A strong optional purchase. (K. Lee Benson)[Blu-ray Review—May 26, 2009—Sony, 89 min., PG-13, $28.95—Making its first appearance on Blu-ray, 1997's Anaconda sports a nice transfer with Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound. Blu-ray extras are limited to trailers and the BD-Live function. Bottom line: a bare-bones Blu-ray debut for a minor cult favorite.]
