The protagonists of this cheaply animated glorious nonsense film are a man-sized fast-food milkshake (flavor unspecified), a giant levitating box of French fries, and an enormous meatball: Master Shake is dumb, Frylock is clever, and Meatwad is meat. Here, the Cartoon Network Adult Swim faves are on a quest for a missing part for an exercise machine called the Insane-O-Flex, which Master Shake stole from their neighbor in the Jersey suburbs. The trio need this part so that they can work out, become hot, and attract babes…oh, plus the machine is capable of destroying the universe, which means that the fast-food antiheroes are pitted against a range of foes with names like the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future. As one might guess from the title, Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters is a strange beast, full of bizarre non sequiturs. Fans of the TV show will certainly enjoy this crazy flick; non-initiates decidedly less so. Recommended, overall. [Note: DVD extras on this two-disc set include an audio commentary (by musician Patti Smith, The Onion editor Todd Hanson, and voice cast members Fred Armisen and Dana Snyder), a “Deleted Movie” rough draft of an alternate version of the film (80 min.), eight deleted scenes (35 min.), a 26-minute “The Thing We Shot Wednesday Night” making-of featurette, an “Art & Music Gallery” which plays various tracks over artwork (17 min.), 10 “Fake” alternate endings (7 min.), a five-minute interview with Snyder and filmmaker Bob Odenkirk (5 min.), “Jon Schnepp 3-D” segment (3 min.), “Dana Man-on-the-Street Promos” (2 min.), “Overhead Projector Presentation Promos” (2 min.), a music videos section with an animated video for Nashville Pussy and Master Shake's “Face Omelet,” behind-the-scenes footage of artists (9 Lb Hammer, Mastodon, Lobby Singers, Nashville Pussy, and Cameo) recording songs for the film, live performances (by Brass Castle, 9 Lb Hammer, and Cameo), and trailers. Bottom line: a full meal deal extras package for a definitely wacky film.] (M. Johanson)
