Bruce Campbell gives us "A Connecticut Bogie in King Arthur's Court" in this wildly over-the-top and frequently hilarious comic horrorshow. This pseudo-sequel to The Evil Dead finds Campbell playing a hardware store clerk who is transported back to medieval times, where he is forced to battle a demon army in order to earn his ticket home. This very well mastered edition includes a spirited commentary by director Sam Raimi, star Bruce Campbell and co-writer Ivan Raimi; 4 deleted scenes; and 15 minutes of additional footage. Recommended. (S. C. Sickles)[DVD/Blu-ray Review—Sept. 15, 2009—Universal, 81 min., R, DVD: $19.98, Blu-ray: $29.98—Making its latest appearance on DVD, and first appearance on Blu-ray, 1992's Army of Darkness (Screwhead Edition) features a great transfer and a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack. Extras include a “Creating the Deadites” visual effects featurette (22 min.), an alternate ending (5 min.), and trailers. Exclusive to the Blu-ray release are production photos and the BD-Live function. Bottom line: nice to see Raimi's third film in the Evil Dead series on Blu-ray, although the extras package is disappointingly scaled down.]
