In another comeback attempt by an aging action star, Sylvester Stallone stars here as James Bonomo—aka Jimmy Bobo—a gritty, grizzled, heavily-tattooed New Orleans hitman with a long rap sheet and little tolerance for the law. Bobo's partner, Louis (Jon Seda), is brutally murdered by hulky Keegan (Jason Momoa) when the pair go after a corrupt ex-cop named Greely (Holt McCallany). Propelled by vengeance, Bobo teams up with young, tech-savvy, Washington D.C.-based Det. Taylor Kwon (Sung Kang), who is investigating the murder of his former partner—Greely. Following a bit of brutish bantering, bullying, and Mardi Gras revelry, Bobo and Kwon set their sights on Keegan and sleazy lawyer Marcus Baptiste (Christian Slater), who work for real estate developer Rob Morel (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). Based on a French graphic novel by Alexis Nolent, this derivative, cliché-riddled film by veteran director Walter Hill is strictly optional. [Note: Blu-ray extras include a “Mayhem Inc.” behind-the-scenes featurette with star Sylvester Stallone (9 min.), and bonus DVD and UltraViolet copies of the film. Bottom line: a small extras package for a forgettable action flick.] (S. Granger)
