Buried is right. In an ambitious attempt to marry the art, comedy, and horror worlds, Cemetery Man comes off like a pretentious Dawn of the Dead. Francesco Dellamorte (Rupert Everett) runs the local graveyard with his unintelligible friend Noggi (Francois Hadji-Lazaro). They are most busy during the night, when they must shoot recently deceased corpses who rise from the dead. When Dellamorte accidentally kills his dream woman (Anna Falchi), he has a brief affair with her corpse. Obnoxious camerawork and lofty statements on the meaning of life, combined with ridiculously fake zombies and necrophilia, make this film one long muddled mess. Michele Soavi's black comedy belongs six-feet under. (L. Russo)[DVD Review—May 30, 2006—Anchor Bay, 99 min., not rated, $29.95—Making its second appearance on DVD, 1993's Cemetery Man sports a nice transfer with DVD extras including a 28-minute “Death is Beautiful” making-of featurette, a text bio of director Michele Soavi, an eight-page collector's booklet, and trailers. Bottom line: a decent extras package for an awful film.]
