In addition to serving up some gritty action, Dangerous Ground examines racial struggles and fraternal bonds. After years in exile, a South African freedom fighter (Ice Cube) returns home for his father's funeral and finds the social landscape of his country greatly changed. In post-apartheid Johannesburg, Ice Cube embarks on a furious search for his missing brother who owes an enormous cocaine debt to a brutish drug lord (Ving Rhames). Elizabeth Hurley is a slovenly, but sexy, stripper who accompanies Ice Cube on this adventure in a frequently violent underworld. While at times the plot seems farfetched, the characters are consistent, and the music is excellent. Although you don't usually find it in an action flick, Dangerous Ground is a strangely redemptive film. A strong optional purchase. (A. Glover)
