Stripes meets The Three Caballeros in this lowbrow, lamebrain comedy starring Larry the Cable Guy, Bill Engvall, and DJ Qualls as weekend warriors mobilized for active duty in Iraq but accidentally dropped off in the desert in Mexico. After coming across some swarthy peasants they mistake for Iraqis, the knuckleheaded National Guardsmen “invade” a nearby village and drive off marauding banditos headed by the karaoke-loving Carlos Santana (Danny Trejo). Yes, that's right, a singing bandito named Carlos Santana—and that's about as clever as Delta Farce gets. In addition to the plentiful potty humor, the script contains some of the lamest jokes I've heard since…well, since Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector. The abilities of such personable and talented supporting players as Trejo, Keith David (as a tough-as-nails drill sergeant), and Marisol Nichols (the 24 hottie, here playing a grateful senorita who improbably falls for Larry) are totally wasted on this dreck. Not recommended. [Note: DVD extras include audio commentary by director CB Harding, an eight-minute “All the Way to…L.A?” location featurertte (8 min.), “The Man Behind Carlos Santana” interview with costar Danny Trejo (8 min.), a “Hacienda Confidential” conversation with costars Larry the Cable Guy, DJ Qualls, and Bill Engvall (5 min.), “The Queen of Mean Gets the Last Word” interview with costar Lisa Lampanelli (4 min.), and trailers. Bottom line: a decent extras package for a dud comedy.] (E. Hulse)
