One of those comedy sequels slapped together by a lazy screenwriter, Dr. Dolittle 2 is nevertheless consistently funny and occasionally downright hilarious, thanks to Eddie Murphy reprising the title role and the wisecracking critter voice talents of Lisa Kudrow, Mike Epps, Michael Rapaport, Andy Dick--and especially--Steve Zahn as an inept circus-trained bear who has lived his whole life in show biz and now has to romance and mate with a wild female. Of course in order to enjoy the laughs, you have to overlook the flimsy, pandering, politically correct plot concerning a coalition of forest animals trying to save their habitat from loggers by getting the doc to coax the two endangered bears into proliferating their species. A strong optional purchase, especially at the sell-through price. (R. Blackwelder)
