A spin-off of the popular Dragon Age video game franchise from Canada-based BioWare, featuring motion-capture CGI animation by the Japanese studio Oxybot, the plot of this fantasy centers on the matriarchal "Chantry," who worship the "Maker" under a sort of woman pope, and help keep the world safe from dangerous magic. When a renegade band of sorcerers kidnap and corrupt an elf girl—for the purposes of controlling dragons in a scheme to bring down the Chantry—only a virtuous magician and a fierce dragon huntress (who, naturally, hates all magicians) can stave off catastrophe. While watchable as eye-candy, this is also predictable fare that rarely feels like more than an extended promo for the game. A dual-language release, rated TV-MA, extras include a “making-of” featurette and a backstage tour of BioWare. Optional, at best. (C. Cassady)
