Here's something you don't see everyday: a French anime, and it's strictly Pepé Le Pew. Set in a dystopic future that bears a curious resemblance to Europe during the Middle Ages, Dragon Hunters follows eponymous heroes Lian-Chu and Gwizdo and their miniature dragon sidekick Hector as they travel the countryside ridding anxious villages of pesky dragons. Of course, internal strife sometimes creates more drama than any fire-breathing foe. In one of the disc's four episodes, little Hector feels he is not appreciated and runs away to become the student of an oversized village-terrorizing dragon; the prospect of fighting his former teammates confuses little Hector, though it's obvious on which side he will eventually end up. In another episode, a spider-like dragon with a talent for human impersonation creates more confusion for the Dragon Hunters, though again, the outcome of this challenge is telegraphed far in advance. English-dubbed and rated 7-up, Dragon Hunters' animation is strictly adequate, but the characters are one-dimensional. Not recommended. [Note: Dragon Hunters, Vol. 2, Vol. 3, Vol. 4, and Vol. 5 are also available.] Aud: P. (P. Hall)
