Open up America! You're about to be spoonfed your morals. Sure, Steve Rash's Eddie seems like a comedy, but it's more like eating an aspirin dissolved in a teaspoon of jam--it still leaves a bad taste. Whoopi Goldberg plays an obsessed New York Knicks fan who gets her chance to coach the losing team when the owner (Frank Langella) uses her as a novelty to increase audience attendance. Of course the team begins winning under her tutelage. While Goldberg has a flair for comedy, the one-liners fall flat and her shtick gets old fast. Most terrifying, though, are the endless "messages" the film spouts. "Just show them you care." "Don't sell out." "Money isn't everything." This shallow drivel is enough to make a person take a free throw--right into the trash can. (L. Russo)
