In this spellbinding, turn-of-the-century drama, Jacqueline Bisset (Dangerous Beauty) does a fine job as Christine Van Buren, a poised and reserved spinster who spends her summer at an upscale seaside resort. There, she meets Theo (Peter Weller, Screamers), a dashing millionaire, who once broke her heart 25 years ago. As romance revives between the two former friends, Christine is abruptly called back home to tend to her dying father. In the meantime, Alice (Amy Locane), a seductive, beautiful younger woman sets her sights on Christine's budding flame. But Locane isn't the only one heating up the drama; Julian Sands (Leaving Las Vegas), acting as a promiscuous priest seeking upper class opportunity, adds to the summer scandal when he spends more time baring his chest than being a man of the cloth. With a superb mix of characters and a storyline that reads like a soap opera, End of Summer offers a devilish, but delicious plot that will hold female audiences at any season. Recommended. (M. K.
