The real plot of Fathers' Day has nothing to do with two men who are both told by the same ex-lover that one of them is the father of her runaway 17-year-old son; the real plot involves old buddies Robin Williams and Billy Crystal running around being Robin Williams and Billy Crystal. Director Ivan Reitman uses Williams as a comedic "In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida" drum solo to fill time between Fade In and Fade Out, leaving Crystal and the rest of the cast to pick up Williams' improvisational scraps. It should have been easy to make this work with so much comedic talent involved, but this goes well beyond merely disappointing. It may be one of the laziest comedies of the decade. Not recommended.
