One of 1999's most provocative and generally misunderstood films, Fight Club's semi-surreal tale of an emotionally deadened IKEA boy's (Edward Norton) awakening through fisticuffs--a get back to (animal) nature philosophy spouted by new friend and anarchist Tyler Burden (Brad Pitt)--makes for a disturbing black comedy whose excesses are precisely mirrored in this double disc DVD. Disc one's feature film is presented in fine anamorphic transfer with 5.1. Dolby Digital sound and 4 separate commentaries. Disc two offers 17 behind-the-scenes vignettes with multiple angles and commentary, deleted or altered scenes, storyboards, concept art, and more. The fun tidbits (Norton's breath in his ice cave sequence is "leftover" breath from Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic) are often outweighed by the generally boring who-left-the-camera-running-and-is-there-any-point-to-this? vignettes. Recommended. (R. Pitman)
