Essentially an extended sitcom routine, this culture clash love story features Matthew Perry (Friends) as Alex Whitman, a yuppie corporate-type building a Las Vegas club who--after a one-night stand with Mexican-American Isabel Fuentes (Salma Hayek, Desperado)--find himself a daddy-to-be. When the couple decide to throw caution to the wind (hey, this is Vegas after all) and tie the knot in a cheesy wedding chapel with an Elvis impersonator as a witness, the predictable second thoughts and unforeseen complications set in. Primary among these are: location, location, location--he's all for leaving Las Vegas for his work back in Manhattan; she wants to stay. While some of the writing is cute (sitcom cute; not real life cute), and the principals occasionally try to breathe life into this tired formulaic story, Fools is a very optional purchase. (R.
