In French Twist, writer/director/star Josiane Balasko doesn't make her gay characters palatable to the heterosexual population by presenting them as lip-stick lesbians. The story follows a cheating husband (Alain Chabat) whose worst nightmare comes true when his neglected wife (Victoria Abril) takes a lesbian lover (Balasko). Using charm and humor, Balasko shreds homophobic attitudes and lampoons stereotypical behavior. At first, Balasko seems to be on a male-bashing kick, but she soon turns her insightful eye on her own gender, creating a more well-rounded comedy. French Twist takes the love triangle to a whole new level. Highly recommended. (L. Russo)
