For anyone who considered the original From Dusk Till Dawn too esoteric and high-brow in its approach to action-horror, this direct-to-video sequel offers pure guns, gore and fangs galore. From its goofy prologue with Tiffani-Amber Thiessen and Bruce Campbell succumbing to a vampire attack, through the main plot involving a Mexican bank hold-up led by Robert Patrick, Texas Blood Money delivers more cheese than Domino's Pizza, with none of the distracting bursts of wit or characterization that made the Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino original at least occasionally diverting. Writer/director Scott Spiegel tries to substitute his own version of visual creativity, but can only come up with ridiculous point-of-view shots from every possible location--the Guy-Doing-Push-Ups Cam, the Barrel-of-the-Shotgun Cam, the Oscillating-Fan Cam, etc. And that's saying nothing of the cutting-edge, rubber-bat-on-a-string special effects. Noteworthy primarily for the bizarre, failed attempts at Tarantino-esque pop culture referencing (including a commentary on the importance of plot in porno movies and the oddest homage to the Psycho shower scene you may ever see), Texas Blood Money might work as background noise while sucking down a few Saturday night brews...provided you don't mind a vampire movie that sucks out your brains. Not recommended. (S. Renshaw)
