"They don't call it the curse for nothing," runs the tagline for this radical feminist take on the werewolf legend, a nifty Canadian teen horror film that gives new meaning to "that time of the month." Repressed 16-year-old Ginger (Katharine Isabelle) and her plainer, younger sister Brigitte (Emily Perkins) resist their burgeoning sexuality until Ginger is bitten by a werewolf on the very night her first period begins. "Our little girl is a woman now," beams mom (Mimi Rogers), unaware that her offspring is about to become a cursed and rather carnal lycanthrope, who tears into local animals and teachers alike. "No one ever thinks chicks do [stuff] like this," Ginger observes, so with 28 days to go before Halloween, Brigitte teams up with a local drug dealer to stop her sister's hormonal homicide streak. Horror buffs will sink their teeth into this scantly-distributed thriller that is poised for cult film status. Recommended. (K. Lee Benson)
