If the fact that this video is based on a book written by R. L. Stine isn't enough to scare up some business, then masks don't grow on faces--which is precisely what this spooky Halloween tale is about. My literary snob of a son Chris reports the book is much better, but this is still recommended anywhere the Stine-meister is a household word. Aud: P. (N. Plympton)[DVD Review--Sept. 21, 2004--Fox, 45 min., not rated, $9.98--Making its debut on DVD, Goosebumps: The Haunted Mask II, from the TV series based on the bestselling books by R. L. Stine, bows on an extra-less (and even menu-less) disc that features a grainy, dark, and all-around unimpressive transfer and Dolby Digital stereo sound. Bottom line: with Stine's star currently supplanted by J.K. Rowling and Lemony Snicket, this lackluster DVD release falls into the "purchase according to demand" category. Also newly available are Goosebumps: Night of the Living Dummy III, Goosebumps: Welcome to Dead House, and Goosebumps: The Werewolf of Fever Swamp.]
