Rife with more and better twists than a teen-targeted psychological thriller deserves, Gossip is a dark, borderline-tantalizing popcorn flick about a trio of sociology majors whose experiment in manipulating the campus rumor mill runs amok when rape and murder charges surface. The cast of utterly self-absorbed mannequins is lead by a bookishly sexy Lena Headey (Onegin) as a conspirator who becomes riddled with guilt but finds that the lies the trio told to cover their tracks dashes any credibility her confession might carry. Although the plot is serviceable, the film simply doesn't live up to its potential, blatantly opting for style over substance, presumably on the assumption that the target audience won't know the difference. Not a necessary purchase. (R. Blackwelder)
