If you can count how many times a comedy makes you laugh on one hand, then chances are the jokes are old, and the writing's stale. High School High, unfortunately, has material similar to Don't Be a Menace To Society While You're Drinking Your Juice in the ‘Hood, so many of the sight gags fall flat (i.e., outrageous ‘hood hairdos). Spoofing Dangerous Minds and Stand and Deliver, Hart Bochner's film follows a ridiculously optimistic teacher (Jon Lovitz) who dodges bullets daily to help his bad-ass students graduate. Even with a hilarious ode to The Deer Hunter and Lovitz's wonderfully idiotic performance, the film isn't sharper than its predecessor. Not a necessary purchase. (L. Russo)
