For those who've never experienced the splashy, colorful exuberance of India's "Bollywood" musicals, Rajiv Menon's I Have Found It is a perfect starter film. Not only does it offer all the sweetly innocent love songs, dazzling costumes, and multicolored sets that are Bollywood's specialty, but it also stars Aishwarya Rai, the Indian superstar who was recently profiled on 60 Minutes as "the most beautiful woman in the world" (it's arguably true: Rai is a stunning presence, with large, expressive eyes that convey a knowing combination of sweetness and come-hither sexuality). The movie itself is an often breathtaking contemporary spin on Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility, in which Rai plays a devoted daughter whose sister and mother suffer a financial setback just as she's being wooed by two appealing suitors. Complicating emotional matters is the fact that her sister is also in love, and the narrative plays out with warm humor and lightweight drama on a variety of exotic locations, including the Egyptian pyramids and a regal Scottish castle. It's 150 minutes of pure fluff, and sometimes the filmmaking is a bit graceless, but otherwise this is Bollywood at its most appealing. Recommended. (J. Shannon)
