"The heartwarming story of an orphaned 8-year-old Mexican boy who goes in search of his guardian angel and finds him..." reads the promo copy. If good intentions alone were enough, then this wholesome 1996 flick would pass with honors; however, this meant-to-be uplifting story of young Julio's escape from a life of juvenile crime plays like a sappy made-for-TV movie. While the characters lack any real dimension and the life lessons learned here are too tidy, viewers eager for feel-good family fare probably won't even mind the rather soft-looking transfer from a less-than-pristine print.
