The Kama Sutra is best known in this country for its catalog of acrobatic sexual positions. But Mira Nair, the director of the landmark Salaam Bombay, has more than bouts of sexual Twister on her mind. In 16th century India, the Kama Sutra is a sacred text by which women learn the rules of love. "And if I can't use them on the one I love," our plucky heroine states, "I will use them on the ones I don't." She proves an apt pupil. This ravishing and intoxicating film is a feast for the senses, but the script is overripe with romance novel clichés. Optional. (K. Lee Benson)
