From the team who foisted Dumb and Dumber on the world (the Farelly brothers) comes this twisted tale of a washed-up bowling champ (Woody Harrelson) who recruits an Amish farmer (Randy Quaid) to go bowling for dollars in Vegas. While I had a few good laughs over scenes I'd never want my mother to know I enjoyed, Kingpin eventually takes the path of most gutter balls. Very optional. (R. Pitman)[Blu-ray Review—Oct. 21, 2014—Paramount, 113 min., PG-13, $21.99—Making its first appearance on Blu-ray, 1996's Kingpin features a fine transfer and a DTS-HD 5.1 soundtrack. Extras include both the theatrical and extended R-rated versions of the film, audio commentary by directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly, the new featurette “Extra Frames with the Farrelly Brothers” (20 min.), and a trailer. Bottom line: fans of the Farrelly brothers will welcome this Blu-ray debut; others will want to pass.]
